Man followed alleged trespasser off property before fatal street fight

Forensic police officers are examining the man's death in a street fight at Dandenong North.

Police are investigating the death of a man who was killed in a fight, after earlier reports he had been trespassing in the front yard of a neighbouring property.

Victoria Police said a woman made a report to police that a man was acting suspiciously in her front yard on Gladstone Road in Dandenong North, just before 5:00am on Monday.

Police said the woman's male partner confronted the man, before following him around the corner into Carlton Road, where there was a fight.

The alleged trespasser was seriously injured and taken to hospital, where he died several hours later.

The resident was also taken to hospital for treatment.

Police forensic officers were seen on Monday afternoon at the Gladstone Road property.

Neighbour Tram Nguyen, who lives on Carlton Road, said she did not witness the fight.

"It happened when most people were sleeping, that is why not many people know about it," she said.

She said she was worried about what had happened "but I can't do anything, I don't know clearly about what has happened".

Another neighbour, Stuart, who did not want to give his surname, said he had been aware of the fight earlier in the morning.

"I heard the lights, the police and ambulance," he said.

"I let the police and ambulance do what they have to."

Stuart said he believed "it was just one of those things" that happens.
