
A MAN allegedly found with a sawn-off firearm and ammunition at a Mayfield pub on Tuesday night has been refused bail in Newcastle Local Court.
Nathan Paul, 31, was arrested at the licensed venue in Maitland Road about 8.30pm after police allegedly found a gun and ammunition in a backpack.
Mr Paul was charged with possession of an unregistered firearm, possess shortened firearm, not keep firearm safely, possess ammunition and two outstanding warrants.
Mr Paul, who was represented by solicitor Lauren O'Brien, did not enter any pleas or apply for bail in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
The matter was adjourned until June 29.

Police had earlier incorrectly linked Mr Paul's arrest to an investigation into a road-rage shooting at Stockton last Tuesday.
