A woman woke from a blackout with bruised genitals and no underwear after an encounter with an alleged serial rapist, a Melbourne court has heard.
Karl Bacash is accused of raping three women he picked up near popular city nightspots in 2017 and 2018.
The 57-year-old Bulleen man is charged with four counts of rape, six sexual assaults and two counts of drugging alleged victims with an "intoxicating substance".
It's alleged he picked up the women, who were aged in their 20s and 30s, in his SUV.
A friend of one of the alleged victims has given evidence at Bacash's committal hearing.
Under cross-examination, he testified his friend told him she'd had a "vague conversation with a guy outside a house", followed by a blackout period.
She later found she was bruised and not wearing any underwear.
The witness sent her a message via social media, asking "you don't think he sexually assaulted you, do you?".
He testified he had asked this question because her account "sounded very alarming".
"She found she wasn't wearing underwear ... she couldn't remember what had happened," he told the court.
"I definitely raised it because she complained about bruising around her genitals."
He agreed his friend had also mentioned being red and itchy around her groin after the incident.
He said she had not mentioned being drunk or having a hangover, and said she had only drunk "a couple of light beers if anything".
He also agreed his friend was confused about what had happened and was trying to remember the details.
"She was just confused about how events transpired because it didn't make sense," he told the court.
He gave evidence they had a trusting but not romantic relationship, and later drifted apart.
He said he was not aware the alleged victim did not want him to talk to police.
Bacash has denied the charges against him.
