Woman examined as gardai taking alleged rape in south Dublin hotel 'very seriously'

An alleged rape of a female member of the Defence Forces took place in a hotel room, the Irish Mirror understands.

The claimed attack happened late on Monday at a hotel being used for mandatory quarantine in South Dublin.

The woman reported it to gardai in the early hours of Tuesday before a probe got underway. She was in a hotel room where the attack is alleged to have happened.

A source said: “It is still early on but gardai are taking the allegation very seriously.”

The probe is led by the local divisional Protective Services Bureau. The hotel room where the alleged rape happened was preserved and a forensic examination was carried out.

The woman was brought for an examination at a sexual assault unit.

Gardai have interviewed people present in the hotel at the time and will conduct more over the coming days.

A spokesman confirmed: “Officers are investigating an allegation of an assault.”

A Defence Forces spokesman said it is “aware of an alleged incident” and did not comment further.
