Alleged paedophile's home 'targeted in fire attack by vigilante group who outed him'

A community has spoken out about their shock after a group of vigilantes reportedly targeted the home of an alleged paedophile.

A man, said to be in his 50s or 60s, was reportedly outed by a group of "paedo hunters" last week, before his home in Sheffield was damaged, Yorkshire Live reports.

Police officers have confirmed that they discovered a car on fire outside a property when they responded to a call on the evening of November 7.

Dramatic footage of the fire has also been released on Instagram by @imjusttsheff.

One neighbour said: “The estate has dealt with him and given him a warning."

Eye witnesses say the car was parked on the drive of the semi-detached property, close to the house.

It worried neighbours who were concerned houses along the street could have been damaged.

One young mum said: “With the fire being so close it was scary.”

Another woman living nearby reported hearing a loud noise, which she believed to be glass windows blowing out.

“I was just sat watching telly and I heard this bang and the car was on fire,” she explained.

When a reporter visited the scene on Tuesday morning, the downstairs windows of the house were boarded up. A car parked on the street also had several broken windows.

It is not clear if the damage was caused by the fire.

One neighbour believes the house’s windows had been smashed a couple of days before.

And while nobody interviewed knew who owned the car parked outside, one person said a car which was set on fire had been removed from the scene.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers attended the scene along with the fire service and a car which was on fire outside the property was extinguished. An investigation into the incident is now underway.

“Officers are also investigating a separate incident at the same property in Lindsay Avenue on Thursday evening (November 4).

"At around 8.26pm, a member of the public reported that a man had committed sexual communication offences towards a child. When the caller had confronted the man regarding the matter, it is alleged that the man threatened him.

“Officers attended the scene and an individual was subsequently arrested on suspicion of affray and child sexual offences. He has since been released under investigation in relation to both matters.”
