A second man has been charged with murdering a 17-year-old boy who was mistaken for a rival gang member before he was gunned down in Austin.

Hakeim Stone fired the shots that left Avion Aldridge dead in a vacant lot on Sept. 26 in the 200 block of North Leamington Avenue, Cook County prosecutors said Wednesday.

Stone was 17 at the time of the shooting. Now 18, he has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder.

The alleged getaway driver in the shooting, 19-year-old Davion Jones, remains in custody at Cook County Jail on $3 million bail for Aldridge’s murder and possession of a stolen vehicle, court records show.

About 11 a.m. on the day of the shooting, reputed gang members Stone and Jones were with a group of others when they thought they spotted a rival, prosecutors said.

Surveillance video recorded Jones going to a nearby intersection and pointing while saying, “You want him? You want him?,” prosecutors said.

Jones then allegedly drove Stone to the South Leamington Avenue address in a stolen car. There, Stone chased Aldridge into the vacant lot and shot him four times, prosecutors said.

Surveillance footage captured Stone and Jones immediately before and after the shooting, and a fingerprint recovered from the stolen car matched Stone’s, prosecutors said.

Stone is enrolled in high school and lives with his aunt, an assistant public defender said.

Judge Susana Ortiz ordered Stone held without bail Wednesday.

He is expected back in court March 23.
