Alleged domestic plotter held without bond; prosecutors have 14 days to present terror charges

The Coast Guard lieutenant accused of stockpiling weapons for a hit list of politicians and journalists could be released in two weeks if the government fails to bring domestic terror charges.

Lt. Christopher Hasson was arrested Feb. 15, with court records filed in U.S. District Court in Maryland describing him as a "domestic terrorist" who allegedly began building up supplies in 2017 for his planned attack.

He allegedly drew up a list of targets from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and CNN personalities including anchors Chris Cuomo, Van Jones and Don Lemon.

But although Maryland District Judge Charles Day ordered at a detention hearing Thursday that Hasson be held without bond at the request of prosecution, he gave the government 14 days to present more serious charges against Hasson according to NPR.

If the government fails to do so, Day will consider a defense motion for release.

Right now, Hasson is only facing misdemeanor drug and felony weapons possession charges.

Court documents claim Hasson wanted to establish a "white homeland," and that he's a "domestic terrorist bent on committing acts dangerous to human life that are intended to affect government conduct."
