An alleged child sex offender who is not allowed to remain within 100 metres of a school has had his bail conditions varied to stay at a hotel opposite Narrabundah College.
Chris Cox, 47, was arrested in early June after United States authorities tipped off the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation.
ACT Policing officers raided his Kambah house, where they seized a number of electronic devices and allegedly found child exploitation material.
Mr Cox was subsequently charged with accessing and possessing child abuse material.
Mr Cox was behind bars for three weeks before he fronted the ACT Magistrates Court on June 25, and was granted bail on conditions including that he live with his parents in Melbourne.
On Friday, he phoned into the court. His lawyer Tom Taylor said Mr Cox wanted to return to live in Canberra, and he could stay at the Ibis Styles hotel on Goyder Street in Narrabundah.
Magistrate Beth Campbell agreed to vary Mr Cox's bail conditions to allow him to live at the hotel until December 12, and said other conditions would remain in place.
The conditions included that Mr Cox not approach or remain within 100 metres of a school or childcare centre, not access the internet, and not be in the company of anyone under 16 without specific people around.
Mr Taylor said Mr Cox would reside at Greenway after his stay at the hotel.
Mr Cox will be back in court again on December 10.
