Alleged burglar caught leaving Gungahlin home with stolen items, police say

A man was allegedly caught leaving a Gungahlin home carrying stolen property after residents interrupted a daytime burglary and called police.

Police allege the 32-year-old Florey man entered a storage area and attached garage at a home in Gungahlin Place about 12.15pm on Friday, July 3, removing several items before he was spotted by the owners.

Officers arrived a short time later and allegedly found the man leaving the property carrying the stolen items.

Police allege the man attempted to flee on foot after officers directed him to stop but was arrested nearby.

Investigators said a number of the allegedly stolen items were recovered and returned to the owner.

The Florey man, who police said was subject to good behaviour obligations, is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, charged with burglary and theft.
