A man accused of committing a daylight Boxing Day murder under a bridge in Queanbeyan is set to fight the allegation at trial.
Alan William Delaney, 52, was arrested in the early hours of December 27, 2019, after allegedly attacking Aaron Baxter with a flurry of punches in Trinculo Place the previous morning.
Police have previously said they found the 46-year-old victim "semi-conscious" under the Queens Bridge about 9.30am on the day in question.
Paramedics treated Mr Baxter at the scene before taking him to Queanbeyan District Hospital, where he later died.
Mr Delaney, who was quickly taken into custody at his home on Lowe Street, has been behind bars on remand ever since.
He was initially charged with manslaughter, a back-up count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possessing a knife in public.
The manslaughter charge was upgraded in March 2020 to murder.
Mr Delaney's case has been repeatedly adjourned since then, with mental health issues and assessments discussed in court on several occasions.
The 52-year-old was not required to attend when his case briefly returned to Queanbeyan Local Court on Tuesday morning, with lawyer Kim Bolas appearing on his behalf.
A prosecutor asked Magistrate Roger Clisdell for a month "to sort out the paperwork", telling the court Mr Delaney would likely be committed for trial on the next occasion.
Mr Clisdell granted the request, setting the matter down to return to court on August 3.
