An alleged member of the Comancheros bikie gang has pleaded guilty over his part in a brawl that temporarily shut down a Canberra strip club last year.
Paea Talakai, 27, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday and formally pleaded guilty to a charge of affray.
The Queenslander was involved in a large fight at the Capital Men's Club in Fyshwick in August last year.
Documents tendered in court said the brawl broke out "between a number of Comanchero OMCG [outlaw motorcycle gang] members" just after 3:00am on Sunday August 20.
CCTV footage of the incident played in court showed one man being kicked and punched as he lay on the ground unconscious, while glasses were smashed and tables overturned.
Several members of staff can be seen hiding behind the bar and screaming, as security guards watched on helplessly.
The fight went for about 10 minutes and caused the club to be shut for the rest of the night.
Prosecutor Anthony Williamson told the court Talakai was a "card-carrying" member of the Comancheros group.
He said Talakai was "scanning the crowd" during the incident "looking for people to hit".
"The offender had multiple opportunities to disengage," Mr Williamson told the court.
Talakai denies he is a bikie gang member
According to court documents, police arrived at the strip club at 3:15am, and found 20 Comanchero members preparing to leave.
The documents state that none of the men would speak with police or provide a statement.
Talakai's defence lawyer Adrian McKenna told the court his client was not a member of any bikie gang.
He also said Talakai had been receiving treatment for alcohol abuse and anger management.
"He accepts what he did is wrong … he accepts alcohol is a problem," Mr McKenna said.
Magistrate Glenn Theakston told the court the issue of whether Talakai was a member of the Comancheros gang was "critical" and "needed to be resolved" before he was sentenced.
The case was adjourned until next week.
