Alleged assault keeps Beh behind bars

A man who allegedly assaulted two police officers following an alleged domestic violence incident at Edgeworth remains behind bars.

Kyle Jason Beh appeared in Toronto court on Monday charged with 17 offences including six counts of common assault and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He has also been charged with assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty causing actual bodily harm, resisting police, stalk/intimidate, and destroying or damaging property.

Police were called to a house in Edgeworth at 11am on Saturday following a report that a 27-year-old woman had been assaulted. Police found the woman had suffered facial bruising and arrested Beh, 26, in the backyard.

Newcastle bail court heard on Sunday that Beh struggled violently as he was being led to the police truck. An officer suffered a dislocated right shoulder and injuries to his right hand, lower back and groin.

A second officer was allegedly kicked three times in the face, suffering swelling and bruising as well as injuries to his right hand and elbow. Beh was taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged.

The first officer was taken by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital where he was treated and underwent further tests. The second officer was initially treated at the police station and continues to receive medical treatment. Both officers are now at home and unfit for duty.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Wally Ball described the allegations against Beh as extremely disturbing and noted he had a history of violence and drug use.

Beh, who appeared via video link, has not entered pleas to any of the charges and is expected back before the court on December 14.
