Allan Saint-Maximin vows to work harder after 'worst game' of Newcastle United career

Allan Saint-Maximin has vowed to work 'even harder' after admitting his performance against Oxford United was below par.

The winger, who returned to the side after missing the Everton game, failed to dazzle a sell-out St James' Park crowd.

The Frenchman was guilty, several times, of getting into good positions but taking too many touches before releasing the ball - but did have force Simon Eastwood into the only decent save of the first half with a low drive.

Responding to supporters' tweets, Saint-Maximin picked out one that criticised his performance - agreeing with the critque.

"Not gonna lie, that's true it's my worst game so far, no excuses... Now I'm gonna work even harder to be more in shape! Thank you for the support."

Newcastle were lucky to earn a draw against the League One side with Marcus Browne constantly a thorn in the side of the defence.
