Allan Saint-Maximin set to miss Christmas run-in as Frenchman is ruled out with injury

Newcastle United have been dealt a major blow with Allan Saint-Maximin ruled out for the entire festive period.

The French winger suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 defeat of Southampton just 48 hours after playing through the pain barrier with a separate ankle issue.

As reported by Chronicle Live on Sunday, Saint-Maximin left the stadium on crutches and when asked about his injury he stated it was a 'bad one.'

Steve Bruce later revealed he had been “toying” with the idea of changes and would be “kicking himself” if it was a bad injury.

But Saint-Maximin should be back in early 2020.

The injury will give Christian Atsu the chance to stake his claim from the start.
