Allan Saint-Maximin set for Newcastle United return in FA Cup clash

Newcastle United are set to hand Allan Saint-Maximin a starting role in tonight’s FA Cup clash at West Bromwich Albion.

The Frenchman is with the team at their Midlands base after coming through training before flying with his team-mates on the eve of the game.

Steve Bruce wanted to run further checks on Saint-Maximin this morning and physios are satisfied he is able to start after a hamstring injury.

The former Nice man did not start against Burnley after flagging up some “soreness” on his leg.

But the injury has cleared sufficiently for Newcastle to declare him ready for a start.

Bruce is expected to make some changes to his starting line-up but will still field a strong side.

United are bidding for a place in the last eight of the competition for the first time since 2006 when they got past Southampton at St James’ Park at the same stage.

This is the best run in the competition during the Mike Ashley era.
