Allan Saint-Maximin had the perfect reaction after a pundit mispronounced his name all afternoon

He barely had his boots off after a wet and wild game at St James’ Park but Allan Saint-Maximin had the Twitter app open and was reacting quicker than Miguel Almiron moves for a loose ball.

Paul Merson had been mispronouncing the Frenchman’s name ‘Sam Maximus’ all afternoon on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday and the Frenchman couldn’t resist joining in the fun.

“Congrats to our new players @Joewillock and Sam Maximus for their game! @PaulMerse told me that you did well guys” he tweeted.

Saint-Maximin had just helped Newcastle win what could be a vital game, 3-2 at home to Southampton, and now he’d won Twitter too. And not for the first time either.

He wasn’t finished there. Next ASM hit edit on his Twitter profile and updated his Twitter name to match Merson’s mispronunciation.

He is now officially Sam Maximus to his 193.4k followers right now.

Next, he switched to Instagram where a 43 second video of his Southampton highlights, which included two assists, had been uploaded presumably by his social media team.

Injured captain Jamaal Lascelles had already commented with some fire emojis, to which ‘Sam Maximus’ replied: ‘Let me be late now’ suggesting the French winger has a habit of turning up late and incurring the wrath of his captain.

Merson saw the funny side too, replying the to the tweet, saying "Apologies mate . . . well played to both of you today."

Maybe Lascelles will forgive him next time, and Paul Merson will learn how to pronouce his name.
