Allan Saint-Maximin's brilliant reply to Sunderland player's claim he would never play for Newcastle

Allan Saint-Maximin has issued a brilliant response to Sunderland forward Chris Maguire who claimed he would never play for Newcastle United.

Maguire's comments as part of a question and answer session through Sunderland's social media account prompted a widespread reaction from both sets of supporters.

The 31-year-old faced questions on a range of topics including his footballing idol, his Black Cats' team-mates, and his favourite moment so far in a red and white shirt.

But the one question which inevitably drew the biggest reaction was whether the boyhood Celtic fan would prefer to play for Newcastle United or Rangers.

Maguire took his time mulling over his decision, before firmly declaring 'none'.

The comments drew praise from Black Cats' fans, while United fans were also quick to let him know their feelings on the matter.

Now, Magpies' forward Saint-Maximin has waded into the social media discussion with his own take on Maguire's response.

The French winger has quickly established himself as a fans' favourite with his displays on the pitch and his antics on social media.

The 23-year-old's latest response continued this trend, racking up more than 3,000 likes in less than a hour.

One fan simply wrote: "The king strikes again."
