Allan Saint-Maximin responds to talk about his future and insists he's 'really happy' at Newcastle

Allan Saint-Maximin has reassured Toon fans that he wants to stay at Newcastle United.

The winger, who signed a new contract last autumn to tie him down until 2026, is already looking ahead to next season with the Magpies but is eager to be looking up the table rather than over his shoulder.

Saint-Maximin's late-season form has already prompted questions in Press conferences as to how Newcastle will hold on to him if big clubs take an interest in the summer transfer window.

The former Nice star said: "My ambition is to go up with the club.

"It's what I say always when we talk with the players and everything - we have a good team, you know, but in the Premier League, it's not enough to only have a good team.

"Every team has some good players and play well.

"The most important is to do exactly what you do in training in the game.

"If in training we play really, really great football, we have to the same in a game."

Saint-Maximin, who was at one stage linked with Tottenham Hotspur in 2020, has suffered from injury problems and Covid issues this season.

Speaking to the club's programme, he said: "I'm really happy.

"If you see when I play in my position, number 10, it is more easy for me to help my team play good football.

"That's why I hope I keep going to play in my position to help my team as much as possible.

"I hope we don't fight again to not go down.

"For me, Newcastle should not have to fight for this you know?"
