Allan Saint-Maximin pokes fun at Sunderland as the Black Cats are condemned to League One again

Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin has poked fun at the predicament of local rivals Sunderland - who will spend another year in League One following defeat in the play-offs.

Sunderland lost out to Lincoln City - winning the second leg at the Stadium of Light 2-1, but losing 3-2 overall - and Saint-Maximin was quick to rub salt into the wounds.

The Frenchman recalled the tweets from Sunderland fans back from back in March when Newcastle were among the favourites to be relegated from the Premier League and Sunderland were looking likely for promotion, meaning the two teams would meet in the Championship.

However, Sunderland's form dropped off and Newcastle's picked up - and Saint-Maximin was not shy in reminding Sunderland fans of that.

Taking to social media, Saint-Maximin posted: "I'm looking for a song that a lot of people sent me in March but I can't remember the title, it was something like "Sunluns going up and the mags are going down. Who can help me, please?"

Saint-Maximin's return to fitness was a major reason behind Newcastle successfully fighting off relegation - and head coach Steve Bruce will hope the Frenchman can remain fully fit for the 2021-22 campaign.#
