Allan Saint-Maximin makes promise Newcastle United fans will love

Newcastle United's mercurial French forward Allan Saint-Maximin took to social media after his side's 3-3 draw against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

It was the Magpies ' first game under the management of Eddie Howe but their new manager wasn't able to coach from the touchline due to testing positive for covid. Despite his absence, Howe's side showed plenty of the attacking threat that he would have wanted to see, with Saint-Maximin starring.

In his message, the Frenchman said: "I will do my best and make sure that the next time I score it is to win the game ! Thank you for the love"

Unfortunately, whilst Newcastle carried great threat going forwards, they looked typically leaky at the back, as they have done throughout the season. The Magpies had taken an early lead through Jamaal Lascelles, who headed in from a corner.

However, they quickly went behind as Brentford equalised a minute later through Ivan Toney and then Rico Henry gave the Bees a lead by heading in a Sergi Canos cross.

Joelinton equalised before half-time by driving in a shot after the ball bounced to him inside the box but Brentford took the lead again in the second half after Frank Onyeka scored with a deflected shot which gave Karl Darlow little chance.

Saint-Maximin then had his moment as he volleyed in at the back post and gave his side a a chance to go on and win the game. Magpies fans thought they might see a winner when the winger dribbled from the halfway line to set up Joelinton.

However, the Brazilian stalled on taking the shot and ultimately lost the ball before he had the chance to apply the finish.

As Saint-Maximin said, next time both he and the fans will hope that he scores the winner. However, the team will need to make big improvements defensively to give their star attacker a better chance.
