Allan Saint-Maximin fitness boost for Newcastle as Frenchman expected return date revealed

Allan Saint-Maximin is expected to be fit to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

But the French winger will be rested for the League Cup tie at Morecambe tomorrow.

The game will also come too soon for Jamal Lewis who took an accidental boot in the face against Brighton at St James’ Park.

Bruce said: "Saint-Maximin had a scan on his ankle. He tweaked it and twisted it but we don’t think it’s that bad,” said Bruce, who withdrew the Frenchman before the break at the weekend.

“I’ve just seen him this morning. I don’t think he’ll make tomorrow night but he’s got a chance maybe for Sunday.

“Young Jamal unfortunately got a horrible kick to his face. We were worried at one stage about his eye, but that seems to be OK.

“His eye is completely closed now, he’s got a cut above it, so he won’t be involved tomorrow. But thankfully, there’s no real lasting damage.”
