Allan Saint-Maximin a doubt for FA Cup clash at West Brom - and Steve Bruce is asked where Andy Carroll is

Steve Bruce says that Allan Saint-Maximin is a "concern" for Newcastle United's trip to West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup.

The Frenchman was the hero in the last round when he blasted home the winner in extra time at Oxford.

But after picking up a niggling hamstring injury last week, Bruce may have to rest him for the last 16 encounter at the Hawthorns.

Bruce said: "We’ve got one or two little issues – Allan is the biggest concern.

"He was sore yesterday in his back and hamstring area."

The only other major absentee is likely to be Andy Carroll with the striker still not fit after muscle and hip problems.

He said: "Everyone else seems to be OK from the weekend, although Andy’s not ready.

"We know the issue we’ve got with Andy, unfortunately we just can’t seem to get him right.

"There’s the frustration.

"It's nothing to do with his ankle, but we’ll have to bash on without him and hope we see him return in the next couple of weeks."
