Allan McGregor signs new Rangers deal as keeper extends stay to 2021

Rangers star Allan McGregor has signed a one-year extension to remain at Ibrox until 2021.

Boss Steven Gerrard revealed the 37-year-old keeper was in line for a new deal and has now put pen to paper to remain with the Premiership side.

McGregor has been a key player since returning to Ibrox in 2018 when he signed a two-year deal after leaving Hull City.

The former Scotland international's displays in Europe have been vital in helping his side reach the last 32 of the Europa League .

And he follows in the footsteps of Gerrard who inked a new deal to remain Rangers manager until 2024 in Friday.

He told Rangers TV: "It's very pleasing.

"I've not really been thinking about it but there's a wee bit in the contract that if I played a certain amount of games.

"I'm just looking forward to another year.

"You need to have standards here, you need to train how you play.

"I've been brought up with that standard, to continue to do that, it's a big thing here.

"You should be training the way you play because if you don't it might creep into games, so it's very important."
