Allan McGregor sets high Rangers standards and admits he's 'annoyed' as Walter Smith looms large

Allan McGregor says the result is all that matters after Rangers edged out Celtic at Ibrox, but that doesn't stop him feeling 'annoyed' at his side's performance.

The experienced keeper saw his goal under siege for the first hour and was on hand with a number of key stops to deny Celtic an opener.

McGregor 's heroics eventually paid off as after Nir Bitton saw red, Steven Gerrard 's team went ahead through a Callum McGregor own goal, and didn't look back.

And while the 38-year-old was delighted his side could see out the victory, he was far from delighted with their performance.

He told Sky Sports: "I thought we were really poor in the first half, and especially in the 15 minutes before the sending off.

"We were a wee bit better after that, but the win's the most important thing.

"I've no idea (why) but they looked hungrier in the first half and the first 15 minutes of the second half, but we managed to get the win."

"I was annoyed at how bad we were to be honest.

"But again, I know I keep repeating myself, but the win is all that matters.

It was a ground out win for Rangers but they say the sign of champions is winning when you're not playing well.

That's something McGregor knows well, as he was watched on by his legendary former manager Walter Smith at Ibrox.

"The boys dug it out well," he went on.

"If you look back at Walter's era, obviously we were really good at that, but that comes from the players and the message the manager gives us."
