Allan McGregor's unseen Rangers reaction as wily keeper tells Bobby Madden his wonder save DIDN'T happen

It's been replayed over and over even prior to Saturday's final whistle at Ibrox.

But it turns out Allan McGregor didn't want anyone on the pitch (or at least the ref) to know he'd made a quite stunning stop from Leigh Griffiths.

The Rangers keeper was named man of the match as he shut out Celtic and allowed his team-mates to grind out a 1-0 derby victory at the other end.

He made a string of important stops but it was a fingertip effort to keep out Griffiths that stood out.

The Celtic striker's curling strike looked destined for the top corner, only for McGregor to shuffle across and tip the ball onto the post.

But the 38-year-old, not one to stand and admire his own handiwork, immediately set about trying to convince referee Bobby Madden he didn't actually save the shot.

In a fleeting moment after a corner is awarded, the shotstopper can be seen pleading with the official, saying: "It hit the post!"

Madden, as it turns out, wasn't having it and awarded Celtic the corner anyway.

At full-time, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard paid a glowing tribute to his number one.

He said: "Wow. Outstanding. He's a world class goalkeeper.

"The couple of saves he made to keep us in it .. he is, outstanding, reliable and trustworthy.

"I know now - I already knew but I know even more now - why he's been so successful at this club.

"He's bailed us out again on a couple of occasions."
