Allan McGregor makes Rangers 'best manager in the world' quip as goalkeeper stumped by unbeaten run

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor admits he can't explain the turnaround in fortunes this season - "if I knew that I'd be the best manager in the world".

An unbeaten start to the season has Steven Gerrard 's side 11 points clear at the top of the Premiership and just one win away from the knockout stage of the Europa League.

The keeper is set to break Rangers ' all-time European appearance record against Standard Liege on Thursday night, surpassing club legend Barry Ferguson.

Ahead of the match he was asked what's behind the shift in mentality compared to Gerrard's previous two seasons but the veteran admitted he's at something of a loss.

McGregor replied: "Nae idea.

"If I knew that I'd have told them in January and the January before that as well!

"I've no idea.

"I don't think you can put your finger on it basically all it is, is results.

"If you keep winning that's what gives you consistency and that's what changes people's view.

"That's the only way I can answer that question, if I knew that I'd be the best manager in the world."
