Allan McGregor and his inability to get in the Rangers team has led to him earning an unlikely supporter - Neil Lennon.
The former Celtic manager is preparing his Omonia Nicosia side for a huge Europa League contest with Manchester United on Thursday night but watched on this week as old foes Rangers lost to Liverpool in the Champions League. It was only 2-0 and that was largely down to 40-year-old McGregor making countless saves at Anfield.
Lennon senses expectation levels are rising at both Celtic and Rangers but Light Blues boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst's decision to start the season with Jon McLaughlin as his number one has left him bewildered. The Omonia Nicosia boss told talkSPORT of his former rivals in Europe: “McGregor was unbelievable. I do not understand why he wasn’t playing from the start of the season. That is Gio’s decision. He’s just an unbelievable goalkeeper.
"At every big club – and Celtic and Rangers are no different – once you start getting success the expectation level rises from the supporters.
“People expect them to go to Anfield and get a result. At home against Liverpool, I think they’ll give Liverpool a real game.
“But to get through against PSV (in the qualifiers) was a massive bonus. You’ve just got to enjoy the ride because it’s such a tough group.”
