Allan McGregor awarded Rangers testimonial as Newcastle clash lined up to honour Ibrox legend

Veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor will be recognised by Rangers with a testimonial clash with Newcastle United.

The 41-year-old is set to reach 500 games for the club when they face off against Dundee United on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership, reaching the landmark with a packed CV after almost two decades at the club across two spells. McGregor will become the first Rangers player since Ally McCoist to hit the milestone

He has lifted a dozen major trophies, two UEFA Cup runners-up medals (one final appearance) and claimed 223 shut-outs during his time at Rangers - and the club will recognise the club legend on July 18. A percentage of the proceeds from the match will go to charities nominated by the shot-stopper. Rangers’ managing director, Stewart Robertson said: “Allan’s contribution, across two spells at the club was recognised with his induction into the prestigious Rangers Hall of Fame, at the recent gala dinner in Edmiston House.

"Allan is a true Rangers great. I have no doubt our fans will savour the Newcastle Utd testimonial match. It’ll be an evening many thousands will be able to go to Ibrox to salute and applaud Allan’s remarkable service to Rangers”.
