Allan McGregor and his Rangers red card escape as Malmo skipper reveals sending off injustice

Malmo captain Anders Christiansen insists his side were fired up by a sense of injustice as they mounted their incredible ten-men second half Champions League comeback at Ibrox.

The Swedish side were a goal down and a man down at half time in the third qualifying round, second leg after Bonke Innocent was sent off.

But they stunned Rangers by netting twice in four minutes through Antonio Colak before defending with their lives to go through against Steven Gerrard's shell-shocked side.

And Christiansen revealed they were raging at half time because they believed home keeper Allan McGregor should also have seen red for handling outside of the box and took out their frustrations on Rangers.

He said: "It is a great, great achievement. It was a team effort - not just among the eleven players, but the entire squad.

“All the 23 players, plus those at home, to the coaches and staff who work so hard for nights like this - which are magical.

"It was a fantastic setting with 50,000 fans and we came under pressure in the first 20 minutes where they, unfortunately, get a goal. Then we got ourselves together and we were the better team at the end of the first half.

"We were frustrated at half time after the red card. I thought the second yellow card was harsh, especially as they didn't get a red card for their goalkeeper.

"But that gave us energy and made us believe we could win the match even more.

"We spoke about our energy levels during the break and I am so proud of the performance in the second half.

"It's been a long time since a Malmo side showed such fantastic mentality to do that in the second half, especially with a new group of players who had never been in this position before.

"The discipline in the way we defended and counter-attacked, even though we were up against 50,000 fans, is something we can be proud of.

"That display should be ranked as up there in our many great European nights."
