Allan fee confirmed as Liverpool secure transfer clause for Brazilian midfielder

Liverpool have confirmed the departure of Allan Rodrigues de Souza - making a profit of more than £2.5million on a player who was unable to ever make an appearance for the Reds.

The European and world champions have agreed a £3.2m deal with Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro for the 22-year-old.

Liverpool have also negotiated a 10% sell-on clause for the midfielder, who due to work permit issues was restricted to six loan moves during his four-and-a-half years at the club.

It represents a decent profit on Allan, with Liverpool having bought him for £500,000 from Internactional in the summer of 2015.

Allan had six months remaining on his present Anfield contract, with the Reds having the option to extend his deal by 12 months.

However, they chose not to activate the clause as the player remained ineligible to feature.

The ongoing failure to secure a work permit meant Allan was sent out on loan to SJK in Finland, Sint-Truden of Belgian, Hertha Berlin, Apollon Limassol, Eintracht Frankfurt and, last year, Fluminese.

The latter were keen to sign the creative midfielder after his temporary spell there ended last month.

But they were unable to agree a deal, allowing Atletico Mineiro to make their move.

It represents Liverpool's latest business during the January transfer window, having on Wednesday rubber-stamped the loan of Isaac Christie-Davies to Belgian side Cercle Brugge until the end of the season.
