Allan Campbell under Hibs surveillance as Easter Road side keen on Motherwell star

Hibs are keeping a close eye on Allan Campbell’s situation - as his Motherwell contract is due to expire this summer.

The Easter Road club would be keen on a move for the Scotland under-21 international if a deal can be done.

The Fir Park side and Campbell are both aware of Hibernian’s interest.

Motherwell have offered their star midfielder a new contract and remain in talks.

Hibs know they can offer more in terms of wages and would be willing to pay the £200,000 in compensation now , but it all depends if other clubs in Scotland or England come in.

Head of football Graeme Mathie has identified Campbell as a player they want to try and target and he has the full backing of manager Jack Ross.

The Edinburgh club would even be prepared to do a deal in this window but are unlikely to get to the levels where Motherwell would look to do an immediate deal.

The problem is that Campbell’s stock has grown rapidly in recent months and there is likely to be stiff competition for his signature.

He isn't the only Premiership midfielder interesting Hibs however, as St Mirren released a statement on Monday night to confirm they have rejected a "substantial offer" for 22-year-old Kyle Magennis.

Like Campbell, Magennis is out of contract at the Buddies next summer - but the Paisley club insisted they do not want to sell.

The statement read: "While Kyle is currently ruled out with by injury, he remains an integral part of our football club and we have no desire to sell. We look forward to welcoming him back into the squad in the very near future."
