Allan and Pickford injury update as Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti details Manchester United approach

Carlo Ancelotti has delivered injury updates on Jordan Pickford, Allan and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

The Everton boss explained that his goalkeeper Pickford is yet to recover from injury and Robin Olsen will continue at Manchester United after his fine performance against Leeds United.

Meanwhile, star midfielder Allan is set to return to team training on Friday in what will be a huge boost for the Blues but the Brazil international is still out for United this weekend.

Gbamin is also continuing to recover from his long-term injury problems.

"Out for this game is Pickford - he has not recovered yet," Ancelotti said.

"Allan is out, but he starts training with the team today.

"Gbamin is out too following his individual problem and it is too early to say when he'll be back."

Allan has been missing since the 2-0 victory over Leicester City in December and was being targeted to return at Old Trafford but it appears the game may have come a little bit early for him.

United go into the game off the back of a 9-0 win over Southampton - having already beaten Everton twice this season - and Ancelotti explained how he is approaching the match.

The Italian added: "We played against them in two games this season, we lost both games and this is something we have to change.

"If we follow the same way that we played, I think we would lose so we try to plan a different strategy and we will see how it works.

"This is bad news. They scored nine goals!

"At the same time, they lost against Sheffield United in the game before.

"I have to choose what to say to the players but they know this.

"It'll be a really difficult game, United have a good mix between experience and talented young players. I

"It will be difficult for us but I hope it will be difficult for them to play against us.

"The project of Manchester United is in the right way to reach the level of teams they had in the past when Scholes, Giggs, Rooney and Ferdinand were there. I don't know how long it'll take but I know it's there."
