All you need to know about the Nottingham tram line closures affecting passengers from Monday, August 5

Passengers will be unable to travel by tram between The Forest and the Old Market Square for much of August.

Track replacement works are being carried out across a major stretch of Nottingham's network from Monday, August 5.

Throughout the works, which are set to finish on Sunday, August 18, shuttle buses will be serving tram stops at the Old Market Square and The Forest, as well as the Royal Centre and Nottingham Trent University.

As well as the bus service, two special timetables will be serving trams every ten minutes.

One of these will be in operation between Hucknall, Phoenix Park and The Forest.

The other timetable will see trams running between Toton Lane, Clifton South and the Old Market Square.

Forest Road West will also be closed at its junction with Waverley Street, meaning that buses will be unable to serve the High School tram stop.

Mike Mabey, NET operations manager, said: "We’re always working to keep the system in excellent condition for our customers, and from time to time we have to carry out more substantial track replacement.

"These upgrades to the tram infrastructure will ensure we continue to provide a safe, comfortable and increasingly reliable service to customers."

Constantina Samara, NET customer service manager, said: "The work is being carried out during the holidays as this is one of the quietest times of the year and, although every effort is being made to make travelling as easy as possible, we would ask customers to allow extra time for their journey.

"Additional staff will be on hand throughout this period to advise customers on how best to complete their journey, and NET thanks them for their patience and apologises for any inconvenience while this essential maintenance is carried out."

While the tram work is being done, Nottingham City Council will also be carrying out highways works around the area.

They will include raising the junction of Arthur Street and Waverley Street to slow turning vehicles, and installing double yellow lines near the corner to ensure the junction is kept clear.

Councillor Adele Williams, the council’s portfolio holder for transport, added: "We have wanted to improve the junction of Waverley Street and Arthur Street for some time, as there have been some concerns with visibility – namely due to cars parking close to the junction.

"Working with NET we can take advantage of the fact that the trams will not be running along Waverley Street and complete the work to improve safety at the junction, while keeping disruption to a minimum."

Full services are set to resume on Monday, August 19.
