All you need to know about the latest Nottingham Forest hot prospect to sign a new contract

Alex Mighten is rated as one of the brightest prospects at Nottingham Forest - and he has handed the club a major boost by signing a new contract today.

A 17-year-old quick and skilful right winger, Mighten has represented England at Under-15, 16, 17 and 18 level.

His skill was evident when the Forest youngster tweeted a video of himself in action for the Under-18s last season. More recently, he made his Forest first team debut at Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and scored a hat-trick for England Under-18s this season.

With that in mind, it was is no surprise was linked with Manchester United last summer, as his potential has been well known at the Nigel Doughty Academy for a number of years.

United will have to wait though it seems, after Mighten signed a new contract until the summer of 2022 - his first professional deal.

Mighten's talent is understood to have been a factor in Forest agreeing to sell Arvin Appiah for £8m to Almeria earlier this year. Academy boss Gary Brazil has described him as exciting talent with a bright future in the game.

What the fans have said

What Mighten has said

“I am delighted, obviously having been here since the age of eight there is no better feeling. I was raised in the city, my parents were raised in the city so it means a lot," he told the club website.

"I am excited but this is just the start, there is a lot to come and I am excited to be able to prove myself to the fans, the manager and to everyone.

“It means more being from here, living literally five minutes away and going to the games when you are younger, of course it means a lot. And now being that step closer to showing what I can do on that big pitch is an amazing feeling.

“I was happy to see the other lads sign their contracts, as they are good friends of mine; it is great achievements for them. It shows that we have good players in the academy and that the pathway is there, we just need to use it and trust it.”
