All you need to know about bin collections in Rhondda Cynon Taf to ensure all confusion is avoided

It's something that some people may have been confused about since lockdown started - when are bins being collected?

The short answer is many of the services are operating as normal in Rhondda Cynon Taf, but some services were slightly altered due to the limited resources that are available as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

For example, previously, bulky waste items were no longer being collected - but this service is due to resume.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has confirmed the collection of ‘bulky waste’ items will be reinstated from Monday, April 27.

But, despite the service becoming active, collections will be restricted to a list of large bulky household items, which will only include large essential household items such as:

  • Mattresses
  • Sofas
  • Washing machines
  • Cookers
  • Furniture
Most of the services are operating as normal (Rhondda Cynon Taf Council)

It's been noted that garden furniture and sheds will not be counted as essential items to collect.

At the moment only the essential items listed will be collected and items must be left at bin collection points, outside of property boundaries or gates or they will fail to be collected.

Residents have also been made aware the service may be subject to change and disruption during the current period.

Patience with any required change is said to be appreciated.

The council has assured residents all collections will be undertaken in-line with social distancing guidance, and residents are also asked to observe these requirements when placing items out for collection.

What else do I need to know about other collections?

All recycling, black bag and kerbside collections are running as normal, including green waste too.

This means:

  • Dry mixed recycling is being collected weekly
  • Food waste is being collected weekly
  • Nappy collections are taking place weekly
  • Green waste is being collected weekly
  • Black bag/wheelie bins collections are taking place fortnightly

Residents are being reminded that if members of staff fall ill there may be some disruption to services.

If this happens people are urged to be patient, and the council has confirmed, if required, it will try to rearrange collections when conditions improve.

The council’s Community Recycling Centres currently remain closed in accordance with the public health restrictions currently in place.
