All Wimbledon qualifying matches suspended as London swelters in heatwave

  • Play at Wimbledon qualifying in Roehampton was suspended on Wednesday amid extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 33C in south-west London.
  • The suspension occurred amid a rare red weather warning for extreme heat across large parts of the UK, with record-breaking temperatures of 40C expected.
  • Wimbledon has a heat rule in place, allowing players a 10-minute break if the heat stress index reaches or exceeds 30.1C.
  • Britain's Dan Evans was among the players affected by the suspension, having just lost the first set of his match.
  • The Met Office alert for severe heat, which poses a danger to life, is in place for many parts of the UK until Thursday, with warnings to stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm.
