All we know so far as police boats are called to River Trent as part of search operation

Specialist teams are searching the River Trent this morning after a car reportedly entered the water on Monday night, February 1.

The underwater and specialist search unit are at the River Trent searching for signs of the vehicle.

The air ambulance, fire service, police and East Midlands Ambulance Service were called to Hoveringham at around 4.15pm on February 1.

Today, the teams are parked up at Hazelford Residential Home in Boat Lane, Bleasby, while they continue with last night's searches.

In a statement yesterday, Detective Inspector Clare Gibson, who is leading the investigation into the incident, said: “Emergency service workers are working tirelessly to locate and recover the car from the river.

“Clearly this is a distressing incident for the local community and we are now investigating to establish the circumstances.

"However, there is nothing to suggest anything suspicious at this stage. I cannot stress enough how important it is that members of the public please stay away from the scene while emergency responders work to find the car.

“Once there is an update, we will provide one but until then, I ask that people do not speculate on what has happened.

“If you have any concerns in the area or any information that could help us understand what has happened, please do not hesitate to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 500 of 1 February 2021.”

Matt Wesley, 24, said his parents were walking their dog last night when they saw police.

He said: "A copper came running up and told them to keep an eye out for a car that had gone in the river.

"Then obviously we saw the fire brigade, the helicopter and everything. There was absolutely loads here. I’ve never seen anything like this here, it’s unreal - I can’t believe it."
