All we know so far about the serious crash involving man and bus in Nottingham city centre

Passers-by were left in shock and distress as emergency services descended on one of Nottingham's busiest streets following a serious crash.

Police officers were called to the scene just after 2pm on Wednesday, September 18, and Upper Parliament Street has been cordoned off.

A man has been taken to hospital with "serious injuries" following a crash involving an NCT bus.

Around 46 NCT services are being affected by the incident which left Upper and Lower Parliament Street at a standstill throughout the afternoon.

Nottingham City Transport has said there are delays of more than 30 minutes on its Navy 49/50, Green, Orange, Pink, Lilac, Red, Blue, Brown, Yellow, Lime, Purple, Sky Blue, Turquoise.

Some buses are running up to 70 minutes late as a result.

Trentbarton has said its Rapid One, Rainbow One and The Two services have also been disrupted.

Hundreds had gathered around the cordon to look at the scene and spoke to Nottinghamshire Live of their shock.

'I don't think I've seen the city centre like this before'

Harry Dean, 19, a student of the city centre, said,: "It's crazy and really sad news. My thoughts are with the person.

"The traffic is really bad but that's understandable. This is a really busy road."

Alan Harvey, 44, of Edwalton, added: "It's very sad to see this. Our emergency services are great and are on hand to help.

"My thoughts are with everyone involved in it. I heard the air ambulance but it didn't land. It was absolutely crazy."

Debbie Gates, 59, of Sneinton, said: "A man got hit by a bus. It was awful.

"The air ambulance tried to land in Old Market Square but it couldn't land and went somewhere else. It was so loud. I don't think I've seen the city centre like this before.

"Loads of people are wondering what's going on. There was an ambulance and loads of police are still here as you can see. I really feel for anyone involved."

A woman at the scene who didn't wish to be named said: "It is just awful. The police look like they're doing well to sort things out.

"It's not what you want to see or hear about. The fact the air ambulance came gives you shudders."
