ALL trains to be cancelled at Manchester Piccadilly due to roof repairs

All trains are to be cancelled at Manchester Piccadilly to be replaced by buses, due to 'engineering works' on a train shed roof. The station will see all trains halted throughout Sunday (January 15).

Passengers have been urged to either use alternative stations in the city, or use the replacement bus services which will be provided throughout the day instead.

The announcement was made on Monday evening (January 5), coming just days after train services across the country were hit by walkouts staged by 15 operators. The station went on to thank travellers for their patience ahead of the works being carried out.

Manchester Piccadilly posted: "On Sunday 15 January buses will replace ALL trains from Manchester Piccadilly due to engineering works on our train shed roof. Please allow extra time for your journey and check before you travel. Thank you for your patience whilst these works are undertaken."

People were also urged to 'plan ahead' when booking tickets. Northern suggested people used alternative stations in the city, such as Manchester Victoria or the replacement bus services available.

Northern tweeted: "Travelling through Manchester this weekend? Work on the roof at Piccadilly will mean no train services to/from the station on Sunday. Replacement buses will be in operation or use other Manchester stations."

Full details about affected services and alternative routes of travel are available on National Rail's 'Future engineering work' page.
