All trains suspended at Leeds station but man 'safely removed from harms way'

Disgruntled passengers are being told the incident at Leeds station has been 'resolved' after a man was 'safely removed from harms way', but long delays and cancellations continue.

British Transport Police say all lines were closed at the station at around 7am on Thursday, May 30 after concerns were raised about a man in 'a precarious position'.

Thousands of passengers were left stranded as all services were suspended while officers tried to bring the man to safety and barriers were set up to prevent anyone from getting onto the platforms.

Passengers were told to find other forms of transport or offered seats on rail replacement buses.

In a short statement, released at 9.47am, police said: "A man has now been safely removed from harms way.

"We are now working with Network Rail to resume train services as soon as possible.

"Thanks for your patience this morning whilst we worked. Hoping to get people moving again shortly."

However, delays and cancellations continue and Northern says 'all customers are advised not to travel to the station until lunchtime at the earliest'.

It adds: "At this stage we don't have an estimate for when trains will start running again. Please check  National Rail Enquires  for live train times."

The disruption is expected to continue until around 3pm.

National Rail says all lines are still blocked and trains are being cancelled and delayed by up to 160 minutes.
