All train lines blocked between Newcastle and York after overhead line is damaged

All train lines are blocked between Newcastle and York and disruption is expected to last until the end of the day.

LNER have said they are dealing with "significant disruption" as a result of damage to the overhead wires between Northallerton and York on Monday.

Passengers are being advised to avoid travelling today and their tickets will be valid tomorrow (Tuesday).

The following ticket acceptance is agreed until further notice;

  • Virgin Trains (between Edinburgh and London)
  • TransPennine Express (between Leeds and York)
  • Northern (between Leeds, Doncaster & Sheffield)
  • CrossCountry (between Leeds, York & Wakefield)
  • East Midlands Trains (between St.Pancras and Sheffield)

Coaches to run between Newcastle and York are also being organised.

A statement from LNER says: "We are experiencing significant disruption to our services today as a result of damage to the overhead wires between Northallerton and York.

"We're advising customers not to travel today. Your tickets dated for travel today, Monday 2 December, will be valid for travel tomorrow, Tuesday 3 December. If you're not able to travel tomorrow, you'll be entitled to a refund.
