All Trafford wards have infection rates lower than 400 per 100,000 for the first time in months

For the first time in months, all of Trafford’s wards now have an infection rate below 400 cases per 100,000 population.

Before this week, areas in the north of the borough, including Old Trafford and Stretford, had stubbornly high infection rates since the October lockdown was relaxed last year.

Now, all areas have dropped downwards and the highest infection rate in the borough sits in Old Trafford with 379.5 cases per 100,000 people.

The majority of the borough has infection rates below 200 cases per 100,000 population.

While areas in the north of the borough still have the highest infection rates across the whole borough, numbers are finally falling.

Urmston West has the lowest infection rate of all areas in the borough, with just 71.7 cases per 100,000 population.

Three areas of the borough have infection rates below 100 cases per 100,000 people – Urmston West, Timperley and Flixton and Moorside.

Flixton and Urmston have previously been problem areas for infection rates throughout the pandemic.

The rest of the borough’s areas all have infection rates below 200 cases per 100,000 people.

Coun Jane Slater, Trafford council’s executive member for health, said: “We are pleased to see our rates falling across the borough however we still need to make more progress as our rates are still high, and with an average of 66 people testing positive every day last week.

“It is really important that everyone says yes to the vaccine when they are offered it. The vaccine is safe and it is the best protection we have against the virus.

“Please continue to protect yourself and others even after being vaccinated. We are asking everyone to stay home as much as they can and keep practising the basics of washing your hands, wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.”
