All Together Now: Geri Horner and Rob Beckett return with BBC singing competition

It’s time to grab a microphone and stand up high on the table because All Together Now is back on the BBC.

Yes, the Saturday sing-along is returning with Geri Horner and Rob Beckett at the helm to encourage the audience to fine tune their pipes and get involved.

The first series, which hit screens last January, wasn’t exactly the biggest hit with critics – who slated the need for yet another singing show – but viewers jumped at the chance to have an excuse to put their worries to one side and belt out a tune.

Now we have a reason to sing on a Saturday night again, here’s everything you need to know:

What is All Together Now and how does it work?

In case you need a refresher, All Together Now is all about one voice inspiring hundreds.

One confident singer steps into the studio to give it everything they’ve got in front of a 100-strong audience. As well as keeping in time and in tune, the singer must entice the crowd to join in with them.

The 100 are under the leadership of Horner, a Spice Girl past and present, who offers expert advice as well as supporting and encouraging the contestants. Horner’s ultimate job, though, is to get as many people on their feet as possible.

The more people who stand up and get singing, the higher the hopeful’s score.

What is the prize?

Two acts from each of the five heats go through to the series final with the most popular act each week going straight through, while the second and third go head-to-head in a sing-off.

In the end, one lucky singer will walk away from episode six with a trophy and £50,000 in hand.

Who won series 1?

Michael Rice chosen to represent UK at Eurovision

Michael Rice was crowned winner of the inaugural series early last year, having crossed the line with a rendition of Proud Mary.

Still singing, Rice is taking his career abroad this year…all the way to Tel Aviv in Israel, having been chosen by the public to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

When does it start?

All Together Now returns tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One. Episodes will be available shortly after on BBC iPlayer.
