Round 2 features two really good teams.
We took a bit of a break from our all-time Mountain West basketball series with the NFL Draft but now with that gone let’s move onto the next games in this series.
Round 2 Matchups:
Series 9: #1 2011 SDSU vs. # 8 2009 BYU
Series 10: #2 2020 SDSU vs. #7 2007 Air Force
Series 11: #11 2013 New Mexico vs. #14 2009 Utah
Series 12: #4 2011 BYU vs. # 12 2018 Nevada
Series 10 Preview: This series features two teams that are led by veterans, can score from anywhere, and take care of the ball. They both also like to play slow. Both teams are coming off of a seven-game series as well. I expect another close series between this 2020 Aztecs and the 2007 Falcons team.
Game 1: Viejas Arena, Series tied 0-0.
Air Force goes on a shooting barrage and the Aztecs can’t get their offense going in the second half. Air Force takes home-court advantage.

Game 2: Viejas Arena, Air Force leads series 1-0
SDSU locks in their defense and holds AIr Force to 39% from the field.

Game 3: Cadet Field House, series tied 1-1.
Aztec’s offense really struggles in game 3, Air Force is forcing them to play sloppy.

Game 4: Cadet Field House, Air Force lead series 2-1.
This veteran SDSU team seems to have thrown in the towel on this series. They get blown out in game 4.

Game 5: Viejas Arena, Air Force leads series 3-1.

Air Force takes the series in 5 games. I am left speechless. This Air Force team is good, they finished 20th in KenPom back in ‘07.
On the other hand, they are the only team in this bracket to not get an NCAA tournament berth and just achieved a gentleman’s sweep against arguably the best team the conference has ever seen. It is what it is I guess with this really big upset.
