US rock band All Time Low have scored their first UK No 1 with their sixth album, Future Hearts.

“This is a huge surprise! We didn’t expect this kind of reaction to the album and we couldn’t be happier,” the band told OfficialCharts.com. “After so many years together, we never want to let our fans down, and this feels like a massive achievement on their part as much as ours.”

It was a narrow victory for the group, who shifted 19,400 chart sales this week, just 278 ahead of nearest rival James Bay. Bay’s Chaos and the Calm sits at second place, alongside fellow crooners Ed Sheeran at No 3 and Sam Smith’s debut In the Lonely Hour at No 4. The Prodigy’s “violent” new album The Day Is My Enemy completes the current top five.

New entries on the album chart this week include Drenge at No 14 with second album Undertow and Brian Wilson’s No Pier Pressure at No 25.

Not much has shifted on the singles chart this week: aside from Nick Jonas’ single Jealous climbing 111 places to No 2, Jess Glynne holds on to her spot at the top with Hold My Hand, Years & Years’ King is at No 3 and James Bay falls one place to No 4 with Hold Back the River. Ed Sheeran’s Bloodstream caps off the top five.

Of course, the big news this week is the introduction of the vinyl chart. There’s a varied collection of artists making up its inaugural top 10 – with Underworld v Heller and Farley’s Frankie Knuckles tribute Baby Wants to Ride triumphing.

Karl Hyde of Underworld said they were “honoured” to take home the UK’s first official vinyl singles chart. “Vinyl has always been a hugely important part of what we do as Underworld. We started out selling 12”s of our records from the back of a car; it’s still our format of choice when buying music and it’s fantastic that it’s undergoing such a resurgence.”

“This record came about purely as a tribute to the late, very great Frankie Knuckles and the chart recognition is a fitting tribute to his legacy. All proceeds go to the Frankie Knuckles Trust/Elton John AIDS Foundation. We’d like to humbly thank everyone who’s bought the record and helped raise money for such a worthy cause.”

While the full impact of the vinyl chart is yet to unfold – the current top 10 in both albums and singles charts sees the emphasis fall on indie and alternative artists – with the likes of Swim Deep, Everything Everything, Sufjan Stevens and Courtney Barnett succeeding.
