Bristol has been the underdog location outside of London in the TV and film industry when it comes to filming. The city built its reputation as an on-screen location through shows like Only Fools and Horses, Skins and Sherlock.
It was also the home of Casulty for nearly 30 years. You can see an interactive map of some of these locations on the Bristol Film Office website, which has been working hard to make Bristol one of the UK’s most film-friendly cities.
Today, it's rare to walk through the city centre without seeing a production crew shooting a scene for the latest limited drama series. Bristol Film Office, run by Bristol City Council, has invested in broadening the city's potential for on-screen production including the expansion of The Bottle Yard Studios to TBY2, a premium facility in Hengrove that opened in 2022.

As it stands, there are at least nine separate projects currently being filmed in Bristol. Here's a rundown of some of the productions that have been spotted around the city recently - air dates for these shows are yet to be released.
The Outlaws
Series three of The Outlaws has been spotted at St Weburghs City Farm, Whitchurch and Abbots Leigh. The BBC show created by Stephen Merchant is set in Bristol, so it's unsurprising that it's one of the most common sightings at the moment.
Doctor Who
There hasn't been a confirmed sighting of Doctor Who since the end of May, but it's certainly one of the biggest shows that's been filming in the city in recent months. The forthcoming doctor Ncuti Gatwa has been seen this year on set in Clifton.
Boarders
Boarders, a brand new coming-of-age comedy-drama created by Bafta-nominated Daniel Lawrence Taylor (Timewasters), has been commissioned for BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. It follows the lives of five underprivileged Black students from inner-city London who win scholarships to an elite boarding school.
Many scenes are being shot in Bristol as crews have been seen recently inside a chicken shop on Redcliff Hill, Faithspace Church and in St Nicholas Church.
Rivals
Most recently, actor and presenter Danny Dyer was spotted behind the wheel of a C5 Sinclair in Queen Square for a new drama series for Disney+. Rivals is an adaptation produced by Happy Prince of a 1988 Jilly Cooper novel of the same name starring a stellar cast, including David Tennant, Aidan Turner, Katherine Parkinson, Lisa McGrillis, Alex Hassell and Emily Atack.
Industry
Bad Wolf (known for Doctor Who) is believed to be filming the hit BBC and HBO show Industry. Crews have recently been spotted in Clifton around Berkeley Square and University Road.
Industry follows a group of graduates competing for permanent positions at Pierpoint & Co, a prestigious investment bank in London.
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder
Film crews have been spotted by Redcliffe Caves believed to be a new adaption for the BBC. A Good Girl's Guide To Murder is a six-part adaptation of Holly Jackson's New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by writer Poppy Cogan.
McDonald and Dodds
Twitter page @bristol_filming has linked the production in the former Bank of England building on Wine Street to Mammoth Screen's McDonald & Dodds. ITV is creating series four which follows Tala Gouveia and Jason Watkins as mismatched detectives based in Bath. An air date is yet to be released.
Truelove
Filming has resumed in recent months for an upcoming six-part Channel 4 comedy-drama series Truelove after a major star pulled out last year. It has been filmed in locations across the city and was seen at Pizza On The Park and Berkeley Square in May as well as at Bristol University Student Union, Richmond Hill Avenue, Clifton and in one of the hospital buildings opposite Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Lost Boys and Fairies
Another sighting confirmed by @bristol_filming was for a new four-part series called Lost Boys and Fairies for the BBC in Clifton. The series follows Gabriel, a singer and artiste-extraordinaire at Cardiff’s queer club-space ‘Neverland’ and his partner Andy, as they adopt their first child.
