All the things you'll be able to do at each stage of the Government's lockdown roadmap

Boris Johnson announced his roadmap out of lockdown yesterday, and with it comes a new set of rules.

Speaking in the House of Commons yesterday, Boris Johnson shared his roadmap out of lockdown, including the earliest dates we could see bars, restaurants, non-essential stores, gyms and more reopen.

The Government’s roadmap lays out the four steps England will take to ease out of lockdown, with major steps coming for the hospitality and leisure sectors in the next few months.

While the first two priorities will be reopening schools and safely reuniting loved ones, steps two, three and four will see businesses slowly but surely reopen.

April 12

Step two is due to begin no earlier than April 12 - here’s what you’ll be able to do from then:

  • Visit indoor leisure, including gyms, alone or within your household group

  • Meet with up to five friends, or people from one other household, outdoors

  • Go to hairdressers, nail salons, tattoo parlours and other personal care premises

  • Visit non-essential retailers

  • Go to a bar or restaurant, outdoor only

  • Stay somewhere overnight in the UK, with your household group only

  • Visit self-contained accommodation, with your household only

  • Visit outdoor attractions such as zoos, theme parks and drive in cinemas

  • Visit libraries and community centres

  • Attend funerals (30 people), wakes, weddings and receptions (15 people)

May 17

Barring any delays, step three is set to begin no earlier than May 17 - here’s what you’ll be able to do from then:

  • Visit indoor entertainment and attractions

  • Attend indoor adult sport

  • Meet up with friends outdoors, up to a maximum of 30 people

  • Meet with up to five friends, or people from one other household, indoors

  • Attend some large events, though capacity limits will apply

  • Stay somewhere overnight in the UK

  • Attend the remaining outdoor entertainment, including performances

  • Travel internationally

  • Attend significant life events, such as weddings (30 people)

June 21

Step four is set to begin no earlier than June 21 - here’s what you’ll be able to do from then:

  • Attend larger events

  • Visit nightclubs

  • Attend life events without legal limits

  • Meet friends with no legal limits on social contact

It is important to note that these dates are subject to change depending on the data meeting England's "four tests".

The four tests for easing measures include the success of the vaccine rollout, evidence of vaccine efficacy, new variants and infection rates, which will be assessed by ministers before proceeding to the next step.

Restrictions will be eased step-by-step across the whole of England at the same time with a five week gap between the lifting of restrictions.

If one step in the roadmap is delayed, the others will be pushed back in order to create a five week gap between them.
