All the things you can and can't do now as new lockdown restrictions come in

After Boris Johnson announced more lockdown rules there are now a number of things you can't do in Liverpool and across the country.

A range of restrictions were brought in for Merseyside and West Lancashire from Midnight on Tuesday but the Prime Minister then extended more measures for the whole country to try and bring down the number of coronavirus cases.

During a national address on Tuesday evening, Mr Johnson admitted that like other countries, the UK is now at a 'perilous turning point'.

New cases have quadrupled in a month, with the possibility of tens of thousands of new cases each day in November.

Liverpool and Merseyside have a number of local restrictions meaning that the list things you can and can't do here is longer than anywhere else in the country.

Residents are also advised to adhere to the following guidance to further reduce rates of infection:

  • Only to use public transport for essential purposes, such as travelling to school or work
  • Avoid attending amateur and semi-professional sporting events as spectators.

The measures now in place for the whole country are:

  • All pubs, bars, restaurants and other hospitality in England will be required to fully close by 10pm from this Thursday, they must operate a table service only, except for takeaways.
  • Office workers should work from home, but people in construction, retail and other areas should continue to go to work.
  • People who work in retail will have to wear face masks, as will people in taxis and all staff and customers in hospitality will have to wear a face mask unless they are seated at a table to eat and drink.
  • Businesses will be fined up to £10,000 if they breach Covid Restrictions and in retail, leisure and tourism and other sectors, the Covid-secure guidelines will become legal obligations.
  • From Monday only 15 people will be able to attend weddings, but 30 can still attend funerals
  • The rule of six now applies to all adult indoor team sports
  • Business conferences, exhibitions and large sporting events will not be able to reopen as planned from October 1

The government's guidance for Merseyside also now states: "We advise that you should not socialise with people you do not live with, unless they’re in your support bubble, in any public venue.

"This applies to inside and outside of the affected areas. Examples of public venues include pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops, places of worship, community centres, leisure and entertainment venues, or visitor attractions."
