Fans were stunned when Shaughna Phillips emerged from her cocoon of Callum Jones-inspired heartbreak to reveal she fancies Luke Mabbott in this week's Love Island.
Last night's episode saw Shaughna pull Demi Jones for a chat to tell her she'd caught feelings for one third of her love triangle, Luke M.
Despite also getting to know new boy Jamie Clayton, Demi took the news hard and sobbed in the Beach Hut as Shaughna pulled Luke to confess her feelings.
Like everyone else in the villa, Luke looked shell-shocked. But after yet another night on the sofa following a dumping from Natalia Zoppa, he decided he did want to get to know Shaughna, as well as Demi - who still hasn't ruled Jamie out.
While Twitter largely wasn't shipping Shaughna and Luke M as a couple, many eagle-eyed fans believe it could actually be the real deal and spell the end of Demi's time in the villa in tonight's dramatic recoupling. And here's why...
Shaughna came clean before the headline challenge
Suspicious fans have accused Shaughna of faking her feelings after one headline suggested she and Luke M should get together and win the £50k.
But the Londoner actually told villamates Mike, Paige and Finn about her feelings before the challenge even happened.
Hitting back at the haters who accused Shaughna of making mad moves to stay in the villa, one fan pointed out: "Didnt Shaughna let it be known to Mike, Paige and Finn she was feeling Luke M before the headlines challenge though, sooo I'm confused......"
She was cringing hard
After being egged on by everyone to tell Luke how she felt, Shaughna could barely bring herself to utter the words, making a series of awkward squeaks during their chat.
And fans questioned why she would be cringing so hard if she didn't care.
"It seems she’s more smitten and giggly with Luke," commented one when comparing her behaviour to Demi's.
"She seems more happy than Demi with him to be honest," agreed another.
Shaughna told Jamie she wasn't interested
Naysayers claimed Shaughna was only crushing on Luke M is a bid to stay in the villa.
But despite having an option in newbie Jamie, last night she admitted she didn't fancy him and told him to discount her from his considerations.
Demi, meanwhile, is still getting to know Jamie and fans noticed that although she's been in tears over Luke and Shaughna, she's still not offered Luke the commitment he asked for.
One viewer tweeted: "I thought Shaughna was being fake with regards to Luke M, just saying she liked him to stay in the villa, but then she told the new guy she wasn’t interested in him and to discount her for the recoupling made me think she was being genuine about Luke."
While others accused her of being a 'game player', one fan echoed those sentiments, adding: "Think Shaughna has genuine feelings for Luke M. Because if she wanted to just stay she would have pursed the new guy who did pick her for a date. And Luke isn’t Demi’s man. She wants to keep her options open. Whilst shaughna put it on the line."
"Luke m has been mugged off more times than Demi so why can’t he get to know two girls when Demi is doing the same thing??" agreed a third. "Double standards, also Demi hasn’t told Jamie that she’s only into Luke whereas shaughna did, she halved her chances of staying in the villa so..."
Demi's grafting turned Luke off
After being dumped by Nas at Casa Amor, Demi refused to put all her eggs in one basket with Luke, announcing that she was going to get to know Jamie but then still kissing Luke.
Luke was gutted and confused, having been in triangle after triangle and dumped by Natalia because she 'got the ick'.
And chatting to Shaughna, he confided that Demi's antics had changed his feelings towards her.
Revealing his head was 'scrambled', he said: "Me and Demi got to know each other and got close, she's getting to know Jamie as well which put me off a bit.
"I didn't want to be in that position again to feel second best, I don't want to be in a triangle…"
Luke pulled Shaughna the next day
After sleeping off the shock, Luke woke up and announced his plans to play Demi and her own game and get to know both girls.
While some think he only did it to make Demi jealous, others have Luke pegged as a level-headed guy who wants someone he can trust.
"Unpopular opinion but I hope Luke M goes for Shaughna," tweeted one fan.
"Demi has her chance to give Luke M her all but chose to lose his trust by getting to know Jamie... she had her chance with him and blew it now suddenly after Shaughna situation she’s gravating towards Luke."
"Luke M needs to pick Shaughna," said a second. "After all the stress he's been through he needs someone loyal."
Others accused Demi of crying 'crocodile tears' and of only upping her attentions towards Luke because of Shaughna.
"Demi's already mugged Luke M off but then coincidentally showed more interest when she found out Shaughna was interested...hmmm," a suspicious viewer shared.
Another added: "Demi is going around telling everyone shaughna fancies Luke m so that people can question shaughna and make her out to be the bad one when she's the one who hasn't even shut it down with Jamie yet and is still playing the game."
"Shaughna pulling Luke M for a chat and telling him she fancies him should be a right kick up the backside for Demi," wrote a third. "If she wants him, she should drop her chats with Jamie, and tell Luke M that she only has eyes for him."
It happened last year
Love Island 2019 fans will remember the shock and awe when after a series of failed romances, fiery Maura Higgins revealed she was crushing on ballroom dancer Curtis Pritchard.
At first no-one was buying it but the couple are still going strong and are one of just two surviving romances from that series.
A viewer observed: "This feels like when Maura admitted she was into Curtis and look what happened there..."
Another added: "Okay but everyone is claiming fix that shaughna fancies luke m and that they don’t suit at all remember how everyone felt about a certain couple last year... and they’re one of the longest lasting couples from that season... give it a chance."
