All the rules that change on Monday March 8 as part of lockdown easing

The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced a four step roadmap for easing of the England-wide coronavirus lockdown last month.

The first step takes place on Monday, March 8, with some modest changes, that focus on schoolchildren returning to classrooms.

The government said: "In Step one, our priority is to ensure that all children and students return safely to face-to-face education in schools and colleges from 8 March.

"Childcare and children’s supervised activities can also resume where necessary to enable parents to work or engage in similar activities.

"We are introducing twice-weekly rapid testing for secondary and college pupils - in addition to regular testing for all teachers - to reduce the chance of the virus spreading in schools.

"Higher education students at English universities on practical courses can also return from 8 March."

Additionally, it was announced that all households with children in education will be offered twice-weekly lateral flow tests.

On social contact, people will be allowed to leave home with their household or support bubble, if they are eligible - or with one person from outside their household - for either exercise or recreation.

That means that you don't have to restrict yourself to daily exercise or essential shopping and could, for example, go out for a picnic - or any other social activity - with your household or support bubble, and ONE other person.

It is still illegal to mix socially indoors.

Care home residents will also be allowed one regular visitor from Monday, March 8.

It will have to be the same visitor every time, and they will need to take a rapid test on each visit, keep physical contact to a minimum and wear PPE.

Further changes take place three weeks later as long as four tests are met - on March 29 - as part of the government's cautious plan.
